Great British Bake Off star John Whaite has said that an argument in Strictly Come Dancing training with partner Johannes Radebe reduced him to tears.
On Saturday, the announcement that they would be Strictly’s first all-male pair was made.
John said that intense rehearsals had sometimes taken a toll on him when the pair appeared on Steph’s Packed Lunch.
Although they seemed to be getting on perfectly, John said Johannes was simply being “too nice” to him.
He said: “He was being too nice. I said, ‘Johannes, I’m just not getting it so please can you talk me through the steps, be horrible to me and I’ll get it.’
“He was like, ‘No darling, I don’t do that.’ I started crying.”
They are set to perform a Tango to Blue Monday for their opening dance, and preparations seem to still be on track as John’s partner, Paul Atkins, and Johannes were able to calm him down.
Despite the tiff, John claimed he was still “loving every minute” of Strictly.
When Steph McGovern asked Johannes how the preparations were going, the professional dancer painted a far more rosy picture.
He said: “[John has] been lovely to work with and I mean that with everything in me.
“John has got a discipline that’s unquestionable, he goes to the gym in the mornings so by the time he turns up he’s all warmed up and ready to go and I can’t tell you what that makes me feel like. Every day I go home and I’m like, I’m a lucky human.”
The pair are working through an intense training schedule, dancing from 10am to around 8pm every day.
John added: “Sometimes the days are stressful and we have to take a few more breaks.
“Last week when we were learning the steps, I was getting really stressed, I glaze over. I reach mental saturation and he has to either feed me Haribo or send me home and I think it’s easier just to put me in a cab and send me home.”
