Strictly fans upset as Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman social distance at launch

Some Strictly Come Dancing viewers have been left unhappy with Saturday night’s pairing show as hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman appeared to be social distancing.

Last year’s Covid pandemic caused a severe hit to BBC’s favourite show. Cast members were reduced and some had to leave the show due to the virus.

Even though the rules of the UK have been relaxed in recent months it seems that Strictly continues to do its part in preventing the spread coronavirus.

But this has left some fans unhappy, with a number insisting there was “no need” for the measure.

Many shared their view on Twitter, with one saying: “Really don’t know why Tess and Claudia are 2m apart.”

Another said: “The social distancing between Claudia and Tess is old. And out of date.”

A third wrote: “No need to stand apart Tess and Claudia.”

Someone else asked: “Why are they still doing stupid social distancing?”

While another moaned: “Judges with screens between them, Claudia and Tess stood apart, audience apart. You can fill out a football stadium now. Come on!”

Of course, it’s completely understandable why the BBC show would stick to previous guidelines, as Strictly has already been affected by Covid this year.

The BBC confirmed that a professional dancer had tested positive earlier this week.

A source told The Sun: “This is proving to be a nightmare for producers, just as they prepare to bring back Strictly for its first full series since the pandemic.”

Luckily, the pairings show was pre-filmed – but if the pro had been given a celebrity it would drastically affect the amount of time they had to practise together before next week’s live launch.

Meanwhile, two pro dancers are reportedly refusing to have the Covid vaccination – despite the positive case.

A source told The Sun: “The dancers who won’t get vaccinated have been a topic of conversation among cast and crew for weeks – even before the positive test.

“There were vocal protests from celebrities that they didn’t want to be paired with them.

“It’s a headache for bosses but employers cannot force workers to get jabbed.”

A BBC spokesman said: “We do not comment on speculation of somebody’s Covid vaccination status. Strictly Come Dancing production has, and will, continue to follow strict government guidelines to ensure the safety of all on the show.”

Strictly Come Dancing’s first live show airs next Saturday, September 25 on BBC One
