Sir Roger Moore was ‘offered $1m for kinky film but turned it down over S&M scene’

James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore turned down a million dollar licence to thrill – after being offered a kinky movie in his 80s.

The 007 star refused the role when he found out it would involve him having sex in a wheelchair and an S&M bondage romp.

His personal assistant Gareth Owen revealed that Sir Roger knocked back the 2010 flick when he was 82 despite the huge fee on the table.

He said: “One particular film offer which grabbed Roger’s attention was from a Spanish production outfit, who were offering $1m for a couple of weeks’ work, playing a guest lead.

“‘Would you read the script and tell me what you think?’, Roger wrote in an email, attaching the screenplay. Who wouldn’t be interested for that amount of money?”

But he added: “The first scene had Roger’s character, a wheelchair-bound professor, having a sex act performed on him.

“And the next scene was with his character in an S&M sequence. I didn’t read beyond, but called Roger and told him.

“‘Don’t bother reading any more,’ he instructed… ‘I wouldn’t get beyond page one!’”

Gareth went on: “He was very principled and also very conscious of his image as a UNICEF ambassador – money was always secondary.

“He probably turned down 99% of what he was offered because he felt it either poor, badly written or a waste of his time.”

Daniel Craig
Daniel Craig is set to star in No Time to Die, which is released on September 30

Sir Roger – who played 007 in seven Bond films including Live And Let Die and The Man With The Golden Gun – died aged 89 in 2017 after a cancer battle.

Meanwhile, the latest in the James Bond series, No Time To Die, is set to be released in cinemas on September 30.

It is the last film to feature Daniel Craig as Bond, and his replacement is yet to be confirmed by bosses, although there have been a number of frontrunners, including Bridgerton’s Rege-Jean Page and Tom Hardy.
