Paris Saint-Germain star Idrissa Gueye has admitted it was “simple” to defend against Manchester City in the Champions League.
The French side won 2-0 over Premier League champions which may have given their rivals some useful tips.
After Lionel Messi was signed by Mauricio Pochettino, City traveled to Paris to take on the favorites to win this year’s competition.
This gives them a strong attack, which also includes Neymar Mbappe. They combined to give PSG victory over Pep guardiola’s men.
Gueye, a former Everton star, took the lead for the Ligue 1 titans after a fine final of his own.
And the Senegal international has explained how they made defending against City simple, despite their dominance of the Premier League.
“The most important thing is to remain solid,” Gueye shared his thoughts with RMC Sport.
“It wasn’t an easy match and we were able to defend well, play on the counter and get opportunities. We scored, but now we must focus on the next game.
“We had to stay compact in the middle and make the most of our counters to score.
It was easy to defend today because they didn’t have much pace.
“The most important thing is the entire team’s performance. After the draw at Bruges, we needed to win.
“We attacked as a team, we defended as a team. Now we need to prepare the next match well.”
Gueye’s comments could lead to some Premier League teams adopting their tactics after effectively keeping City at bay with relative ease.
The Etihad outfit are still the favourites to win the league for a fourth time in five years, especially after beating their biggest challengers Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at the weekend.
