Lionel Messi’s goal against Manchester City in the Champions League also saw him join a list of just three Premier League players.
The Argentine superstar joined Paris Saint-Germain with a free transfer. He had yet to score for his new club, until Tuesday.
He finally broke that duck on Tuesday night at the Parc Des Princes, when Pep Guardiola’s City side travelled the French capital for their second Champions League game of the campaign.
He was only able to score the first goal for PSG in the match after a remarkable feat of physics.
Messi picked the ball up on the halfway line before driving forwards and onto the edge of the City box.
He then played a one-two with superstar team-mate Kylian Mbappe, receiving the ball inside the D.
The PSG star then left goalkeeper Ederson rooted to the spot with a wonderful shot from 20-yards out to seal the win for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
That was Messi’s fifth goal against the Guardiola-era City, becoming just the fourth player to make that milestone.
In PSG’s victory over Manchester City, who was the man of match? Let us know in the comments section…
He joins Jamie Vary, Son Heung-Min and Mohamed Salah in the list, though is the only one to have not scored against them in the Premier League.
All five of Messi’s goals have come in his last three matches against Guardiola’s City, having scored a hat-trick in his first game and once in his second.
Vardy, Leicester City’s star player, has scored an incredible nine goals since Guardiola took over at the Etihad.
Son is the next most prolific goal scorer, scoring seven goals for Tottenham in their match against City under Guardiola.
