Prince Philip’s youngest granddaughter, Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor, made her official royal debut tonight as she spoke about her love of carriage driving.
Princess Edward’s daughter and Sophie, Countess, of Wessex, is an active carriage driver. She took inspiration from Prince Philip, Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
Lady Louise (17 years old) has spoken out on several occasions, but she has not yet officially spoken.
The royal, who will decide whether to become Princess when she turns 18 in November, said that she was sometimes intimidated by her grandfather’s knowledge about the sport.
Speaking about Prince Philip, his daughter-in-law, Sophie, 56, said: “My daughter, she’s gotten involved in carriage driving, it wasn’t something that was foisted on her, she showed an interest.”
Lady Louise appeared on screen before saying: “The Duke of Edinburgh has been so involved in my driving which has been so lovely but slightly scary because he invented the sport pretty much.
“It’s incredible to have learned first hand from him and definitely made us closer, I think.”
The Queen’s granddaughter continued: “After a competition, he would always ask how it went. His eyes would light up because he just gets so excited when he talks about it.
“When we would go carriage driving, first of all, he would take me on a different route every day, I do not know how he managed to do that, but tell me all sorts of anecdotes about absolutely anything and everything.
“He’s honestly one of the most interesting people, I’ve ever met.”
Discussing the Duke of Edinburgh awards, Lady Louise said: “‘I’d always wanted to do it because of the skills you develop as a result.
“My favourite part was my expeditions, just having that level of independence and self-sufficiency and having that sense of achievement when it was finished.”
Taking to Twitter, royal enthusiasts gushed over the royal, with one penning: “Wow, that was amazing. It was wonderful to see so many clips of Lady Louise. You are a true sweetheart.”
“Wow! Doesn’t young Lady Louise Windsor come across so well!” said another.
Before a third typed: “It was amazing to see Lady Louise Windsor’s first documentary.”
“Lady Louise has such fabulous memories of her Grandfather, it was a beautiful interview & they must miss him very much,” added a fourth.
While a fifth said: “What a lovely relationship Lady Louise and Prince Philip had.”
