This week is important for India because January 26 is the day of the Republic of India. Here is the truth:
India became independent from the British in 1947 after decades of struggle. However, when this happened, India was still governed by a set of British laws. Over the next two years, Indian leaders met and discovered what the core of the Indian legal structure should be.
The result: the Constitution of India entered into force on January 26, 1950. India now had a political and moral identity that it could really call it’s own. He became known in the world as the Republic of India.
An interesting fact is that it is the longest constitution in the world, registering almost 80,000 words at the beginning. By way of comparison, the US Constitution has just over 4000 words. Here is an article that puts its content to the side.
Republic Day is one of the three national holidays celebrated in India. The other two are the Independence Day of India (August 15) and the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi (October 2), the famous leader of the Indian freedom movement.
In general, most public schools have functions related to the national flag, anthem, and memory. It is common for many houses to turn on the television to watch the Republic Day Parade in the capital of New Delhi.
