Dapper Laughs says old jokes make him cringe now he has daughters after rape gag axe

Comedian Dapper Laughs has confessed that his old material makes him “cringe” and his persona has changed now that he has two daughters.

The stand-up comic who became known for his controversial views in the past claims he’s now left his laddish days behind him and is concentrating on fatherhood and running his business.

Catching up with Daily Star and other associated press at the opening of his new club Lit in Clapham the father-of-two spoke openly about his new attitude towards life.

He said: “I used to always say Dapper Laughs was a character, but really it was an exaggerated version of me when I was younger or maybe lad culture in general.

“But as I’ve got older, I look back on a lot of the stuff and I cringe and I think that’s now because I’ve got daughters.

“And it’s natural, as a comedian you take from life, and my life has changed.

“I’m still a bit of a k**b, but I’m just more of a family k**b.”

The star also discussed how family life has changed him as a person as he was originally told he was unable to have children.

Speaking candidly, The Big Brother contestant told Daily Star that he believes his family and his partner, Shelley Rae is a blessing.

“We were told that we couldn’t have kids. And then when my father passed away she become pregnant. So it’s a blessing, it really is a blessing.

He added: “And I sort of got used to the fact that I wouldn’t be a dad and I didn’t think I would be very good at it but it turns out that I got quite a connection with kids because I’m so immature, I think maybe.”

The comedian- whose real name is Daniel O’Reilly, hit headlines in 2014 for his contentious opinions on sexism and evident fuelling of rape culture.

The star’s television show on ITV2 was then axed following a series of complaints regarding his “misogynistic” views.

At the time ITV wrote a statement that read: “We have given careful thought to the recent criticism of the character Dapper Laughs, which has focused on his activities outside of the ITV2 programme, whose content was carefully considered and complied.

“We have taken the decision that we will not be considering this show for a second series.”

The star later apologised for his controversial programme and claimed he “did not realise that I was causing a problem.”
