Netflix have announced a surprise new Britney Spears documentary, titled Britney VS Spears, and have released an unheard audio clip of the singer to tease us.
On Tuesday, they tweeted the teaser, and a trailer for the full film will be made public today (Wednesday 22 September).
Britney can be heard leaving a voicemail on Tuesday, September 22nd at 12:29 AM.
She says: “Hi, my name is Britney Spears, I called you earlier.
“I’m calling again because I just wanted to make sure that during the process of eliminating the conservatorship…,” and then the clip dramatically ends.
The timing and content of the clip would suggest that Britney wanted to end her conservatorship just a year after her 2008 public mental health breakdown that led her to enter it in the first place.
The conservatorship was compared to abuse by Britney, a 39-year-old popstar. For 13 years, her father Jamie Spears managed her finances.
She claimed that the arrangement had prevented her from marrying Sam Asghari or having children with him, which she did after he proposed to her earlier this month.
Jamie filed a petition earlier this month to end the legal arrangement after months of backlash.
The filing read: “Ms Spears has told this Court that she wants control of her life back without the safety rails of a conservatorship.
“She wants to be able to make decisions regarding her own medical care, deciding when, where and how often to get therapy. She wants to be able to spend the money she earned from her career without any supervision.
“She wants to be able to get married and have a baby, if she so chooses. In short, she wants to live her life as she chooses without the constraints of a conservator or court proceeding.”
