Woman slams pensioner parents who will ‘most likely die’ before child turns 25

A woman has sparked a fierce debate online after slamming pensioner parents.

The unnamed woman took to Mumsnet to say that choosing to have children in your 60s is the “height of selfishness”.

Following the recent story about Dame Julia Peyton Jones (a gallerist), the lady was discussing the subject. She had her daughter at the age of 64.

The Mumsnet user said she thought it was “selfish” because Dame Julia was likely to die before her daughter reached 30.

Some members agreed it was selfish and others disagreed.

The woman said: “She’ll be 80 years old when her daughter is 16. There’s a good chance she’ll be dead by the time the child is 30.

She sparked a debate on Mumsnet

“She could well die before the child reaches 25. So very selfish.”

Former Serpentine gallery boss Dame Julia had her daughter Pia in 2017. She is now 69 and her daughter is four.

Many people agreed with Mumsnet’s poster that having a child later in life is selfish, and most said so.

One wrote: “Selfish at that age for both men and women IMO. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.”

While another added: “I think it’s unfair on the child because of the huge generation gap. It depends on how open minded the woman is. It’ll be hard for the child with peers.”

However, other said they were other circumstances where having a child was more selfish.

One social media user wrote: “I actually think it’s more selfish to bring a child into poverty, whatever your age.”

While another added: “Some people choose to become parents in much worse circumstances, so you are being unreasonable.”
