Who Was Ashling Murphy? What Happened With Her Murder Case, 40-Year-Old Man Taken In Custody


A 40-year-old man is being interrogated following the murder of a young woman. The woman identified as Ashling Murphy witnessed a horrific attack on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, while jogging along a canal located in Tullamore in County Offaly. Since the murder case was discovered, the officers have left no stone unturned to find the culprit. Now, in the murder case, a man has been detained and put in custody while the police officers are questioning him regarding the suspicious death of the lady.


The woman who 24-year-old Ashling Murphy has identified as a school teacher. She teaches at Durrow National School. On January 12, she jogged along the Grand Canal Way when someone attacked her. Not much information about the sudden attack has been revealed yet. However, as per reports, Ashling died after that attack. Now the area’s officers have started their investigation in the murder case where they are trying to collect all the evidence and details from the crime scene. It is coming forward that a team of 50 Irish police officers has been formed to investigate the case.

Who Was Ashling Murphy?

According to the Irish police, Ashling was a primary school teacher and was quite popular. Apart from teaching at Durrow National School, Murphy was also a talented and skilled musician. The preliminary investigation indicates that the 24-year-old woman died of the injuries she sustained from the assault. As she was severely injured, the woman was taken to the hospital, where she was given the best possible treatment. However, Ashling Murphy could not be saved, and she passed away at the hospital only. The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) has called the attack an “appalling tragedy.”

INTO further stated that the horrendous tragedy to befall a young woman who had just begun her teaching career has added to the profound sense of loss. Now, in the case, Irish officers have detained a 40-year-old man at Tullamore Garda Station. It is reported that the man belongs to Romania and has been residing in Tullamore for several years. Although the man is on the suspect list and is being questioned, Superintendent Eamonn Curley has appealed to the general public who happened to be at the Grand Way on Wednesday between 3 to 5 PM to come forward and share anything they know. Besides, the postmortem reports of Ashling Murphy are awaited.
