Strictly Come Dancing made history with the first male same-sex couple dance with John Whaite and Johannes Radebe.
Johannes was overcome with emotion after kind words and high scores from the judges.
He tried desperately not to cry as the scores came in from the judges, and they found themselves in joint second place with Adam and Katya.
Shirley Ballas said “It’s a testimony to the same sex couple.”
She continued her praise: “It’s absolutely exquisite, and to go from being a leader to being lead is unbelievably difficult and you executed just phenomenally well. Beautiful choreography Johannes, it’s absolutely stunning.”
Johannes and celebrity partner John were both taken aback by the high praise.
Viewers also loved it and were very emotional.
“Don’t mean to be dramatic but seeing John and Johannes on Strictly is just… I remember watching it every year as a child never thinking I’d be allowed to join in because I’d want to dance with a man and to see this! Over the moon,” raved one.
Another added: “John and Johannes making history on Strictly is making me emotional. Representation is so so so so important.”
“John Whaite followed by Judi Love is gay rights” joked another.
There were plenty of heart-eye emojis on Twitter too, with one adding: “God, Johannes and John doing the tango and both looking that HOT. What a moment.”
The praise kept coming: “First ever male couple dancing on Strictly and John and Johannes did an amazing job! Looking forward to seeing more from them.”
The pair received a standing ovation from the audience and the judges after performing a tango to a rendition of New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’.
Nicola Adams and Katya Jones made history last year as the first same sex couple.
John and Johannes were at the top of the leader board for a time, until AJ knocked them off the top spot, achieving two 9s in her scores.
Fans are excited to see what else John and Johannes get up to.
