Like many reality shows, “So Freakin Cheap” has people wondering just how much of it, if any, is real. Many people question the authenticity of the show’s subreddit. “This can’t be real,” one post reads. “So Freaking Fake,” reads another.
It’s worth noting that in 2013 a woman named Melody Rose Gravitt, who was featured on “Extreme Cheapskates,” revealed to her local newspaper Enid News & Eagle that “90% of the things they said are not true.” For example, they showed her using a newspaper as toilet paper, which she said she does not actually do. “Extreme Cheapskates” producers seemingly got caught red-handed once again in 2020, when a Reddit post claimed that Christina Oster, a contestant on “Worst Cooks in America,” previously appeared on “Extreme Cheapskates” under the name Kia Campbridge. Oster’s profile on StaffMeUp, a LinkedIn-type website for the film industry, confirms that she “Wrote character/story ideas for and performed as talent on ‘The Steve Harvey Show,’ TLC’s ‘Extreme Cheapskates,’ & The Food Network’s ‘Worst Cooks in America.'”
Given that the Watsons also appeared on “Extreme Cheapskates,” it begins to raise questions about just how real any of these situations actually were. With alleged proof “Extreme Cheapskates” was staged, “So Freakin Cheap” may not be exactly what it seems.
