According to Deadline, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Sharon Stone has officially signed on for a recurring role opposite Kaley Cuoco in HBO Max’s upcoming second season of The Flight Attendant. The acclaimed comedy-drama thriller is filming Season 2 in Los Angeles, Berlin, and Reykjavik.

Stone is set to portray the role of Cassie’s estranged mother, Cassie, who, after a lifetime of dealing with Cassie’s alcoholism, no longer has any patience or goodwill to spare. She will be joining previously announced new cast members, including Cheryl Hines, Jessie Ennis, Mae Martin, Margaret Cho, Santiago Cabrera, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Mo McRae Callie Hernandez, and JJ Soria.

Based on the novel of the same name by New York Times best-selling author Chris Bohjalian, The Flight Attendant is a darkly comedic thriller that begins when a flight attendant wakes up in the wrong hotel, in the wrong bed, with a dead man – and no idea what happened.

“Season 2 will find Kaley Cuoco’s Cassie living her best sober life in Los Angeles while moonlighting as a CIA asset in her spare time,” reads the official logline. “But when an overseas assignment leads her to witness a murder inadvertently, she becomes entangled in another international intrigue.”

The Flight Attendant was created and executive produced by Steve Yockey. Cuoco, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Meredith Lavander, Marcie Ulin, and Susanna Fogel it is also executive.

Earlier this year, the series was able to score its first major Golden Globe nominations, including Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy for Cuoco’s acclaimed performance in the first season. The first season also captured eight Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Supporting Actress for Rosie Perez and an Emmy for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.
