Shantilal O Projapoti Rohoshyo Movie Review And Rating | Ritwick, Paoli

A deadbeat weather reporter at an English newspaper in Kolkata evolves into a detective when he pursues a deeply buried story concerning a movie star. From the looks of the trailer, the thriller looks fresh and intriguing for viewers.

Life hasn’t been very good to Shantilal Bhattacharya, who is unmarried in his late thirties and stuck in a thankless job as a weather reporter. Even though he has a mundane job, he stumbles upon what could turn his career around as a whistleblower.

On the other hand, Nandita, a popular movie star, has it all and is making plans to venture into politics. When the worlds of these two individuals collide on a fateful day, it sets off a chain of incidents that take the journalist on a fantastical roller coaster ride from Kolkata to Chennai and off to Singapore. At the end of it all, one wonders if the pale reporter will rediscover himself in the role of a pointed detective.

The film starring Ritwick Chakraborty and Paoli Dam has been stirring buzz since the first look and the poster of the movie was released. With the recent release of the trailer, critics feel the movie will be just as intriguing as its title.

While the trailer takes us through a roller coaster ride, it barely reveals anything about the story but subtly steps up the curiosity surrounding the film. With so many questions left unanswered, we will have to wait until the release of the film on August 15 to find out what happens after all.

The film has been written and directed by Pratim D Gupta and produced by Sanjay Agarwal. It also stars Chitrangada Chakraborty, Goutam Ghose and Ambarish Bhattacharya in pivotal roles. This is not the first time that Pritam is making a detective thriller. His earlier hits Saheb Bibi o Golam and Machher Jhol both fared exceptionally well at the box office and received above average reviews.

Review Of Shantilal O Projapoti Rohoshyo

Shantilal is the best thriller mystery film in Bengali in recent times. The film not only manages to meet your expectations, but it also impresses you with its storyline and performances. The technicalities of the film are handled brilliantly.

Writer and director, Pratim D. Gupta has done an excellent job in taking the film from script to screen. The film revolves around a journalist who is looking for that one big break in his life. That one big news. How he tries to achieve it is the story.

The cinematography of the film deserves a special mention. Subhankar Bhar has managed to show the beauty of Kolkata and Singapore perfectly. The color combinations, lighting and grading add up to make the film feel real.

I’m talking much about the film’s plot because I don’t want to reveal it. It is a brilliantly written screenplay and it has to be witnessed personally on the big screen. Don’t miss this movie.

My Rating: 3.5/5

  1. Dear Ms Chatterjee,
This is to your kind information that in the opening credits of “Shantilal O Propapoti rohosyo”, there were two credits mentioned regarding the music of the film,” Songs- Arko” and “Film Music” -Avijit Kundu.
There were two different people who worked independently on the music of the movie but your published article only credits one!
    Thank you.
