Roy Keane tells fans to give Man Utd star a “break” after slow start to season

Manchester United hero Roy Keane has defended Jadon Sancho following a lacklustre start to life in the Premier League following his summer move from Borussia Dortmund.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has only allowed Sancho to start two of five league fixtures. He also saw no more than 30 minutes in four of his five appearances.

Sancho was dismissed before the second half of their victory over West Ham. This was due to Aaron Wan Bissaka’s red cards.

Although some might have felt disappointed at his lack of game-time, Keane believes that the youngster will be able to succeed as long as he is allowed to settle down.

“He’ll be fine.” the former United skipper said on Sky Sports.

Adding: “He’s been at the club what, two months. There’s been a lot of changes, new players coming to the club – give the kid a break.

“He’s still learning his trade, he’s still a young player, big expectations.

“He’s come to a new club where he’s certainly not going to be star man, he’ll be down the pecking order and he’s got to adapt to all that. Give him a chance.”

With Micah Richards adding: “It’s not worked out for Sancho how we all hoped. Some players settle in straight away and some people take time. He knows he can do better, so far.

“At Dortmund his goals and assists were so pivotal but now, Man United is a different level.

“You’re not just the main player in the team but as long as he keeps working hard, finds a bit of confidence, he can be a key player.”

Solskjaer told Sky Sports before the win over West Ham: “Both with Raphael Varane and Cristiano (Ronaldo) coming in, that takes a little bit of pressure off a young man.

“He’s 21, he’s learning the game, he’s learning how we train, he’s learning how we play, he’s learning the Premier League, but he’s come in hungry to learn.

“We knew his talent, and we signed him with the thought that we are going to have a top forward here for the next 10 or 12 years.

“Jadon is still finding his feet. Unfortunately, he fell ill right before he was due to arrive, so he missed a lot of pre-season. He is doing well and he is hard at work.
