Marakkar Lion of the Arabian Sea, directed by Priyadarshan and Mohanlal and starring a large ensemble cast, was the big-budget release in Kerala. The film follows the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV, the chief naval captain of the Zamorin of Calicut (now known as Kozhikode), who is played by Mohanlal and is based on the 16th-century warrior who organized the country’s first naval force to combat the Portuguese invasion.
According to distributors in the industry, after reopening the theatres, the release priority would be for March releases, based on initial discussions with producers. It’s unclear if other film industries will follow India’s lead and close theatres as the coronavirus spreads.
Since it is well-made, the film is one that we will all be proud of. It is dedicated to the Indian Navy and describes Kunjali Marakkar, who is considered India’s first naval commander. The production values are higher than in other Malayalam films.
