I’m a Celeb bosses ‘want Gwrych Castle for third year’ amid Oz lockdown fears

Bosses at I’m a Celebrity…Get me Out of Here have reportedly already started negotiations to secure Gwrych Castle for next year’s series.

Hoping to get a green light on the spooky stronghold, the team behind the smash show are worried the pandemic will throw a spanner in the works for the third year in a row.

And so they want to get ahead of the game to make sure there’s a location nailed down for 2022 – as quickly as possible.

Producers had their fingers crossed this year’s contestants would jet off to the sunny Aussie outback for some grubby adventures – no such luck.

Australia’s ongoing lockdown nightmare put paid to any plans for saying farewell to the castle in the near future.

ITV holds onto a fragment of hope that next year will tell a different tale, but cautious optimism seems to be the way forward right now.

Time will tell what happens, but it looks like 2022 could well provide viewers with another spell of chilly Welsh antics.

Speaking to the Sun, a TV insider admitted it appeared pretty likely that I’m a Celeb would be heading back to Aus in 2021.

As the series returns to Gwrych, fans now know that wasn’t to be.

Luckily, the show’s bosses were smart enough to secure the castle for this year’s instalment, and they’re repeating their wise move for next year.

The TV insider added: “Going back to Oz is still the goal. But this is about bosses taking every step possible to ensure Britain’s favourite TV show stays on our screens. So, they’re likely to approach the castle owners imminently”.

When Covid hit in 2020, I’m a Celeb was thrown into utter havoc.

Ant and Dec, who have hosted the popular ITV show since its debut, were forced to ditch their jungle podium and front the show from a UK camp instead.

Despite the shift, last year’s series was a huge success, seeing CBeebies presenter Giovanna Fletcher crowned queen of the castle.

It was the second most popular series in IAC’s 19-year history, with the first episode attracting an impressive 14.3 million viewers.
