Created by Tim Federle, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is a mockumentary musical drama made for Disney+. Federle is also the executive producer alongside Oliver Goldstick, Bill Borden, Barry Rosenbush and Tamra Davis.

The first season of the series premiered on November 8, 2019 followed by the second season on May 14, 2021. It received positive reviews from critics and currently holds an approval rating of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes. Considering the positive response, the makers have already renewed the series for a third season.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 2 ended with East High deciding to pull out of the Alan Menken Awards for High School Musical theatre. The new season will see the characters from East High travel to the fictional Camp Shallow Lake for a Camp Rock style summer.

Ricky and Nini have broken up and Gina and E.J. are together alongside Big Red and Ashlyn, Kourtney and Howie and Carlos and Seb. It is possible that Nini may not show up at Camp Shallow Lake and Gina and E.J. may have worked things out. We will find out if Mr. Mazarra declines his new job offer and starts dating Miss Jenn.

Coming to the cast, the leads of the first two seasons are expected to come back. This includes Joshua Bassett, Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, Larry Saperstein, Julie Lester, Dara Renee, Frankie Rodriguez, Mark St. Cyr and Kare Reinders.

The second season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series premiered in May 2021 and it was renewed for a third season in September 2021. The makers have officially confirmed that Season 3 is scheduled to release on July 27, 2022.

The upcoming season is also confirmed to have eight episodes. The series is produced by Chorus Boy, Salty Pictures and Disney Channel and distributed by Disney Platform Distribution.
