It’s that time of the year when we crave for Santa Claus to come and give us gifts. Yes, It’s Christmas!!! Christmas, meaning “Feast day of Christ”, is a well known Christian holiday that marks the birth of Jesus Christ. It is celebrated worldwide on the 25th of December every year.
Christmas is a cultural festivity that requires many preparations. Before decorations, the house must be fully cleaned.
For most people, preparations begin in advance. Preparations involve numerous activities such as buying decorations, food, and gifts for children and friends. Common preparations include decorating place with Christmas trees, lighting.
Under the Christmas tree which brings the Christmas spirit in homes, gifts are placed in wrapped gift boxes and are not to be opened until Christmas day.
The church is also decorated and thoroughly cleaned for the special day. Songs and skits are performed and Christmas carols are played on radios and televisions.
Families also plan to travel to stay together during this period. Traditionally, turkey is a common meal worldwide on this day. Cards are also written to friends and family to wish them a happy holiday and show love.
Most families begin by going to church. Later, they exchange gifts and celebrate together with food and music. Happiness during Christmas has no bounds.
With special treats like homemade traditional plum cakes, cupcakes, and muffins, kids are given lots of gifts and new dresses. They also get to meet the ‘Santa Claus’, dressed in a fluffy red and white costume, who greets them with hugs and gifts.
Christmas teaches us the importance of giving and sharing with friends and family. Through Christmas, we know that Jesus’ birth is the beginning of great things in the world. It comes with an opportunity to think about nature and the reason for our existence.
