Goa Taxi Drivers on Strike, Demanded Shutdown of App-based service system Akshay Varma, August 3, 2019August 3, 2019 Goa Taxi Drivers on strike, according to reports majority of the taxi drivers not comfortable with App-based service system because of low taxi fares in Goa tourism market and another side Goa state Transportation, Central Government and even high court had been given direction to driver not to charge substantial fares from the tourists’ but matter was not settled down during the deadline. A large category of the people around 30,000 tourist taxis and operators over-charging and engaging in an unregulated way in the tourism market. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant urged taxi operators to withdraw the strike mode. State government guided and try to implement healthy fare meter system but failed all the time and even deadline given by High Court not met by Goa Taxi operators and drivers. Most off the Taxi drivers and operators joined together massive protests against the BJP government decision to allow app-based services. Even Goa State Transport Corporation buses majorly involved to facilitate pick up services of tourists from Dabolim International Airport, Near from the Railway and Bus stations. Additionally, state government ready to discuss the sensitive matter and try to resolve the problem by providing exceptional app service to exclusively taxi operators so that they can get benefited with new fares. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said tourists should not feel inconvenienced with transportation, Chetan Kamat, who leads the All Goa Taxi Operators Union, mentioned that all the cab drivers and operators stood together with the decision to Scrap Goamiles. GoaMiles is a service run by a private company with the help of tourism corporation. The general public, Goa state transport corporation, the central government want to settle the problem for providing a healthy atmosphere so that tourism will not get disturbed and providing better hospitality to the tourists.
