Fatal Attraction stars now – cancer battle, three divorces and turning back on fame

Psychological thriller Fatal Attraction took the world by storm when it was first released in 1987.

The film explores the themes of marital affairs as well as worryingly obsessive behaviors. It quickly became a huge hit at the box office, grossing more than $320million and earning six Academy Award nominations.

Coining the words “bunny boiler” amongst film fanatics worldwide, Fatal Attraction later became the highest-grossing movie of 1987.

The film’s intense storyline, sexually charged scenes, and frightening ending made it a popular movie that catapulted Glenn Close and Michael Douglas to stardom.

Stanley R. Jaffe, Sherry Langsing and Stanley R. Jaffe had reservations at first about casting Glenn Close in the role as Alex Forrest. They believed she was not sexually capable.

The film would not have been the movie we love today without Glen’s brilliant portrayal.

Daily Star took a look at where the cast is today to mark the 34th anniversary of the movie’s release.

Michael Douglas as Dan Gallagher

Award winning actor Michael Douglas played New York attorney Dan Gallagher in Fatal Attraction.

Even though Dan was married to Beth and had a happy marriage, he began a weekend affair with Alex Forrest. This led to devastating consequences.

Michael played the role of the childish adulterer well. But viewers were able to see that he was fighting for his life and the lives of his family.

Even though the star was already well-known for his role as the son of actor Kirk Douglas’s character, Fatal Attraction propelled Michael to a new level of stardom.

The actor went on to appear in many other films like Black Rain, The War Of The Roses and Disclosure.

But away from the cameras Michael had personal problems of his own.

Basic Instinct star Dan was hospitalized in 1992 due to an addiction some thought was related to sex.

Michael refuted the claims, stating that he was currently in treatment for alcohol abuse. He also openly admitted to recreational drug use.

Numerous film critics thought that the star was becoming more type-cast. Some of his more sexually charged roles may be related to his life struggles.

Douglas married Catherine Zeta-Jones, a Welsh actress, on November 18, 2000.

Although the couple caused controversy amongst fans for having a 25-year age gap, they have gone on to prove that age is nothing but a number.

They share two children together: son Dylan Michael was born in August 2000, and daughter Caryszeta was born in April 2003.

Michael’s outlook suddenly looked uncertain in 2010 when he declared that he had stage IV cancer in the throat.

Douglas was able to overcome what seemed like a death sentence.

The location of Michael’s cancer diagnosis initially confused many reporters. However, the actor later admitted that he actually had tongue carcinoma.

Michael is now in his 70s and continues to work behind the camera. He recently appeared in Ant Man and Avengers: Endgame.

Actress Ellen Hamilton Lazten played the role of Dan and Beth’s young daughter Ellen Gallagher.

Although she was only five- or six years old at the time, the star child of young children certainly made an impact as the loving and only child of the married couple.

Ellen worked as an actress, but she has not had any roles in major films since Fatal Attraction.
