Families form huge queues to meet Father Christmas in September

Hundreds of people have begun queuing outside a garden centre to meet Father Christmas, despite the festive season being months away.

Brigg Garden Centre, near Hull, has brought Christmas early for their customers as they lined up to meet Santa and Mrs Claus as staff opened the doors to a winter wonderland on Saturday.

From trees, lights, gifts, and even Santa-inspired crockery baskets, people have been filling their trollies with heaps of decorations, Hull Live reports.

Customers were seen queuing from one end of the store to another on Saturday morning.

It comes as the popular garden centre is open for 12 hours today. One staff member reported the car park was “packed” from 8am.

Staff had to put out metal barriers for people to form an orderly queue outside at around noon.

To commemorate the opening, children can meet Santa Claus and Mrs Claus; the pair are walking around the store greeting customers and handing out sweets.

There is also a performer singing Christmas songs as customers browse.

The displays include interactive features, and you can also enjoy some seasonal treats in the restaurant at the garden centre.

HullLive readers were in disbelief at what they saw, one comment said: “Grief, is Christmas being cancelled in December??? What is the world coming to?”

Another added: “Christmas is 12 weeks away. It isn’t anywhere near Halloween yet – is it? It’s ok to plan events but for goodness sake… Talk about early. You are jumping the gun – aren’t you?

“Of course, the Brigg garden centre is part of a chain and so it won’t be long before all their other group members follow on. Damn silly ridiculous. The next thing we know, selling Christmas will begin in May !!!!!????”

A third said: “Look at the demographic in the queue, you really think some old ladies are going to sit on Santa’s lap?”

Speaking about starting off the festive season, organiser Amy Stubbs said: “We are all so excited for this festive season.

“Christmas is our favourite time of year here in Brigg Garden Centre – it is a truly spectacular experience and you don’t want to miss it.”

There will also be a Santa’s Grotto event coming to the centre in the run-up to Christmas.
