Dune 2 has been announced by the makers in 2021, Dune, one of the most anticipated movies of the year, wowed audiences with its incredible storyline, VFX, and score. The film is one of the leading contenders for the Oscars in 2022, and there is no doubt it will win a couple, particularly in the technical categories. With great reviews and ratings from both fans and critics, everyone is looking forward to seeing what Villeneuve’s fantasy epic has in store next. Here’s everything you need to know about the future of one of our generation’s most spectacular sci-fi fantasies.
Dune 2 Expected Release Date
Dune was meant to be released in December 2020, but it was pushed back to October 2021 owing to the ongoing pandemic. Similarly, Dune 2 was scheduled to be released in 2022, but it has also been pushed back, and we may see even more delays as a result of the new wave.
We all know that a sequel to Dune must be made, and the good news is that it will be made. For the time being, Dune 2 is slated to be released on October 20, 2023, but given the pandemic situation, no date is certain. In the case of Dune, production must start and finish as soon as possible this year, because post-production will take a long period.
Furthermore, the film’s scope and enormity are so enormous that even filming it will be difficult in such circumstances. Such projects are far more complex than, say, CGI-heavy superhero blockbusters due to the set design and real effects needed. Dune appealed to us because of its beauty and larger-than-life yet realistic approach. And since that takes time, it’s best not to get your hopes up for October 20th, 2023.
The Cast of Dune who are returning in Sequel
First and foremost, the main characters Paul (Timothee Chalamet), Chani (Zendaya), and Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) will all return in Dune 2. Stellan Skarsgard (Vladimir Harkonnen), Dave Bautista (Glossu Rabban), and Javier Bardem (Vladimir Harkonnen) are also reprising their roles (Stilgar). Galus Helen Mohiam, played by Charlotte Rampling, will also return to spread her holy war.
Gurney Halleck, played by Josh Brolin, will very certainly return in Dune 2. Halleck survived the Battle of Arrakis, as anybody who has read or seen David Lynch’s Dune knows. So, unless Villeneuve decides to make adjustments of his own, we can anticipate him to return.
Aside from that, some minor surviving characters will return, as well as a slew of new ones. In the next one, we might finally see Emperor Shaddam IV of House Corrino, who was missing in Dune (2021). From a technical standpoint, Greig Fraser (The Mandalorian, Vice, Lion) will very certainly return as a cinematographer. Hans Zimmer, the great himself, will almost certainly return to compose for “his dream project.”
