Dean Henderson will reportedly seek a January loan move after losing his battle with David de Gea for Manchester United’s No1 spot.
Following his departure from De Gea in the last season’s final, Henderson was expected as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice keeper.
However, he was unable to play due to Covid. De Gea saved Mark Noble’s penalty in the United victory over West Ham on Sunday’s Premier League match.
United are facing the Hammers again in the Carabao Cup, but Tom Heaton appears set to be given his debut between the sticks. Henderson was unable even to make it this season.
Henderson was only recently back in training. However, he did play in two games for the under 23s against Arsenal this month.
In the meantime, De Gea has been in inspired form – and the situation has left his 24-year-old rival looking for a loan move when the January transfer window opens, according to The Sun.
According to The Sun, Phil Jones will make his 20-month debut on Wednesday.
Despite a long list injury problems, United boss Solskjaer has remained loyal to Jones. Jones last played for United in January 2020 when he scored in a 6-1 FA Cup Cup win at Tranmere.
Jones required knee surgery in June 2015, and Jones didn’t return from action until a behind-closed doors friendly against Burnley in the beginning of the season.

He has since resumed training with Solskjaer’s first team, and like Henderson made two 90-minute appearances in the under-23s’ games against their Arsenal and Brighton counterparts.
Jones, who was originally from Blackburn, joined United in 2011. He won the Premier League title and FA Cup, as well as the Europa League. He also made 224 appearances, before succumbing to a series of injuries starting in 2014.
After helping United win the league title in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season, Jones was praised by the legend boss.
“Jones, arguably the way he is looking, could be our best ever player,” Ferguson said back in 2013.
