David Beckham has told Phil Neville to be harder on his son than anyone else after Romeo Beckham made his debut for Fort Lauderdale, Inter Miami’s sister club.
Beckham made his USL League One debut Sunday night, drawing 2-2 with South Georgia Tormenta.
However, Neville revealed what Beckham had told him after the game: “I think the first thing that David said to me was, ‘You have got to be harder on him than anyone else’.
“He has got to work harder than anyone else to get into that team because there will be questions, there will be expectations on his shoulders.”
Despite this, Neville was impressed with the youngster.
“I thought he did really well,” Neville agreed.
“I think the measure of his performance was that he was only planned to play 45 minutes, and he played nearly 80 minutes because he is a boy that is hungry.
“Although he is under a lot pressure and has a lot to do, he keeps his feet on the ground.
“He knows he has got a lot of development to do, and he has got all the right attributes – character, determination, good person – to have a really good opportunity of making it in professional football.”
Beckham lined up on the right side of the field, like his father, and he showed a similar ability to whip balls into the box.
The youngster signed with the club earlier in the month.
Harvey Neville (the son of Phil Neville) joined him on the pitch. Harvey Neville had signed earlier in the year for Fort Lauderdale.
Harvey and Romeo’s arrival in. Their father holds a large hand in the club, leading to accusations of favoritism.
“These boys have made the decision themselves,” Neville made the comment when Neville was quizzed about the matter.

“When I joined this football club, Harvey was at Manchester United… and I played no part in signing my son. It was done by other people.
“He made that decision and he will have to make it. He knows that when he’s in the football club, he’s no different to any other player. It is the same for Romeo.
