Daniel Craig lookalike fears he’ll be out of work after he steps down as James Bond

A Daniel Craig lookalike fears for his career when the actor stands down as James Bond.

The hunky Hollywood star hangs up his golden gun for the last time after the latest 007 film No Time to Die opened in the UK today.

Steve Wright, 53, said that the release of the movie could spell the end of his 14-year reign as a doppelganger of the globetrotting British spy in the movies.

Craig has starred in five Bond films and now Steve, who is just two weeks younger than the actor, reckons he can still squeeze out a few more jobs before the curtain falls.

He said: “Once the new film is out I think that will be the end of me. The final curtain will have come down.

“In nine months they’ll name the new Bond. But I think I’ve got some time left.”

Steve, from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, said he may don this tuxedo for what could be the last time when he watches the latest Hollywood blockbuster at his local cinema on Monday.

He charges upwards of £577 for a two-hour meet and greet session, according to his agency website.

Steve said: “I’m not quite a 100% lookalike but I look pretty much like him with my gun and tuxedo on.

“A good lookalike is about the interaction you have with the people.”

Steve, who has travelled to Dubai and Monaco to work as a James Bond double, said he got into the business after a pal told him he looked like Daniel Craig.

He said: “When Casino Royale came out in 2006 people said I had a little bit of resemblance to him.

“I sent some pictures to a lookalike agency and in a month I was in a luxury hotel in Monaco just about to start a gig thinking: ‘What the f*** am I doing here?

“I’ve been to Dubai, South Africa, Monaco and more [for the job]. I do meet and greets, balls, and TV appearances.”

Steve said the highlight of his career was appearing alongside Daniel Craig in a scene in the 2008 film Quantum of Solace, the actor’s second time starring as 007.

He has also featured at events alongside fellow lookalikes for other popular Bond characters such as Craig’s predecessor Sir Sean Connery and 007’s adversaries Jaws and Oddjob.

No Time to Die has hit cinemas after a lengthy delay due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It stars Craig alongside Rami Malek, Lea Seydoux, Christoph Waltz and Lashana Lynch.
