Dan Walker hits out at ‘annoying’ Matt Baker as he says wife is ‘in love with him’

BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker has admitted he is jealous of his fellow broadcast journalist Matt Baker and complains his wife “wishes I was more like Matt.”

Strictly Come Dancing finalist Matt Baker joined Dan and co-host Sally Nugent on the BBC Breakfast sofa on Monday morning as they discussed all things Countryfile and Strictly after Dan’s first live show.

But as the trio discussed the 43-year-old wildlife presenter’s upcoming book, Dan couldn’t help but admit how jealous he was of him as he revealed some of his hidden talents.

Not only does Matt direct and produce wildlife documentaries, the TV star also shared his passion for painting on Instagram earlier this year as he picked up his favourite past time once again during lockdown.

While they sat down to discuss his love of farming, Dan confessed: “I find you quite annoying really.

“My wife is fully in love with you because we watch your programme and she sees you on Instagram and she goes, ‘Why can’t you do that. He fixes stuff, he paints stuff, he’s a gymnast’. You’ve got so many talents.”

After Dan listed some of his impressive talents, Sally chimed in with: “That’s gonna really annoy Dan. You can look after sheep, you’re practical, you can fix things, you can dance as well.”

The TV star also took on Strictly Come Dancing back in 2019 in which he made it down to the final three before he was pipped to the post by former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher.

And the Strictly Alumni couldn’t help but dish out some last-minute advice to Dan after his surprising Quick Step was adored by thousands of viewers as they tuned in for the opening episode last week.

He advised the doting dad-of-three: “I tell you what I would do, honestly, and I don’t know if you’ve found this, [but] practice your dance to different songs and tempo because when I used to go it in freaked me out when I heard the band playing.”

To which Dan admitted: “Oh I had exactly that when I was on set on Friday night.”

Matt interjected: “You’re like, ‘What are they playing?’ because you might have worked out a move a particular riff of a guitar but they don’t do it when you get to the live finals.

“I mean, they’re brilliant don’t get me wrong,” he clarified. “But it’s very different to what you practice.”

Annoyed at the last minute advice, Dan commented: “I wish I’d spoken to you before the programme because I was like, ‘Hold on a minute, what are they playing?’

The supportive presenter revealed: “That totally happened to me so do that and I’d make up your own names for the moves as well.

Viewers can’t wait to see what the BBC Breakfast presenter has in store for the judges this Saturday as he prepares to take on his first Latin number.
