A building contractor has been recorded on film destroying thousands of pounds of his own work after a dispute with his customer took a bad turn.
Terry James Gregory, coowner of Dream Home Remodels in Colorado, US was caught destroying Amber Trucke’s bathroom.
While he claimed Amanda wouldn’t pay him for it, his customer said that she wanted to inspect the work before paying him.
She hired the company initially to perform work on her Colorado Springs property. They also repaired two ceiling fans and fixed the back door.
Amanda had paid a portion of the lump sum to rebuild her bathroom shower but said she stalled on paying the remainder because she wanted to inspect the quality of the job first, and to make sure the plumbing worked.
This didn’t sit well with Mr Gregory or his co owner who returned to the house with a crowbar, a sawzall, and a sledgehammer to “reclaim” their material.
In the footage shared to Facebook, he is filmed destroying the bathroom tiles and when asked to stop, replies: “Is someone going to pay me?”
On the way out of the bathroom, Mr Gregory leans in to the camera and says: “Let me tell you something. No contractor in the state of Colorado will fix that when they found out that I took it back because she refused to pay me. No one.”
Amanda told KRDO that watching the video “just brings tears to my eyes”.
“It makes me sick, it makes me scared,” She agreed. “This is more than just trashing my bathroom, my sense of safety is gone.”
She claimed that his hammer hits actually caused the damage to the dry wall behind tiles.
In a statement to KRDO, Jordan Cazares – who co-owns Dream Home Remodels with Mr Gregory – said: “After several weeks of work for a customer, communication broke down at the end of a project.
“There was no displeasure expressed, and we proceeded to ask for payment on the project by the end of the day.
“Communication broke further after that and resulted in our company repossessing a tile shower. We are sorry this contract ended in a sour note.
“It has never happened before and is not something that is made regular practice.
“We regret that this contract went sour. She also refused to pay for several other projects, such as a vanity, mirror and light fixture, plumbing work, fixing rotten framing, and a replacement exterior door.”
Police are investigating the incident.
