It’s been 28 years since Eddie Murphy last played Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop III, and fans of the action/comedy franchise have been waiting for word on the long-rumored fourth installment. Mark Molloy took over as director of Bad Boys for Life earlier this year, replacing Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. However, Beverly Hills Cop IV was still in development as of April, and no release date had been set. This week, while promoting Top Gun: Maverick, ComicBook.com’s Chris Killian spoke with producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who revealed that the fourth installment would begin filming very soon.

“So, we’re going to make another Beverly Hills cop. We’ll start that in about a week or ten, and it’ll be for Netflix, “Bruckheimer informed.
While promoting Coming 2 America, Murphy revealed that Beverly Hills Cop IV would be his next project. Coming 2 America was released on Prime Video instead of in theatres in 2020, at the height of the pandemic. “Yeah, that’s what we’re doing after Coming 2 America,” Murphy told Collider. “We’re doing Beverly Hills Cop, and then the plan is to get back on stage and do stand up, and then kind of that’s what I’ll be doing mostly is stand up and Beverly Hills Cop.”
Beverly Hills Cop IV was one of nearly two dozen projects that received millions of dollars in tax breaks from the state of California. The California Film Commission is expected to award almost $15.8 million to the Netflix and Paramount Pictures film, which is expected to generate $78 million in in-state spending.
“They’ve been trying for 15 years to make another Beverly Hills Cop,” Murphy previously explained. “Netflix currently owns it and is working on a script. So that’s what we’re supposed to be doing next. But I will not do anything until the script is perfect.”
