Barcelona fans have called for manager Ronald Koeman to be sacked after he played defender Gerard Pique as a striker against Granada.
Barcelona were unable to score against Granada and scored a goal at Camp Nou.
Ronald Araujo, defender, scored an equalizer in the 90th minute which allowed them to keep their unbeaten record in La Liga.
But #KoemanOut remained trending throughout Monday evening as Barcelona fans decided they had had enough of their manager’s peculiar tactical decisions and their poor run of form.
Strangest of the Dutchman’s decisions was to bring on 34-year-old centre-back Pique as a striker with 15 minutes to go when his side needed a goal – a bizarre thing to have to do when managing one of the biggest sides in the world.
The Catalans managed to fire 54 crosses into the box during the match, which was far from their famous tiki taka style of the past decade.
Pique was able to contribute to the equaliser by controlling the ball inside the box for Gavi (17 years old) to assist the goal. Pique was used in this manner in 2010 against Inter Milan.
Yet fans are running out of patience with what they have witnessed of late as their side sits seventh in the league, only days after being thrashed 3-0 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League
Koeman was left to defend his decision-making and his side’s style of play following the game.
Are you convinced that Barcelona should sack Ronald Koeman to make it a better side? Let us know in the comments section.
As quoted by the Daily Mail, he said: “”If you see the squad list today do you really think we can play tiki-taka?
“Barca right now is not the Barca of eight years ago.
“We play the Barca way but we don’t have the speed in wide areas because we have Coutinho who cuts inside and Demir who doesn’t reach the byline much.
“When Ansu Fati and [Ousmane] Dembele come back then we will be different but they are not fit so we have to find alternatives.”
His team will next play Cadiz away in the league.
