Arsenal fans drool over Martin Odegaard’s free-kick and fire £70m dig at haters

Arsenal fans have hailed both the stunning free-kick and overall performance of Martin Odegaard following the first-half of their Premier League clash against Burnley.

He is eager to play a leading role in the Gunners’ climb to the top under Mikel Arteta and gave his side the lead with Turf Moor’s best set-piece of the season.

At first, the 22-year-old seemed eager to return to Real Madrid to play a role in their first team. However, Carlo Ancelotti told him that he did not have enough options for his midfield.

Arsenal fans were delighted to see the creator join a permanent deal following their dismal campaign last time out, and his fee of around £35million already looks to be a fine investment.

One fan, given Arsenal were also tracking Leicester’s James Maddison in the summer, wrote: “I’m sorry he did not cost 70 million so he must not be good.”

A second said: “As I’ve said many times, Odegaard is our best player alongside Thomas Partey. I’m not surprised by his performance for one bit.”

A third added: “Really liking the balance with this lineup, Odegaard showing good maturity to hold and play in his position.”

With a fourth saying: “Odegaard is class. You can see he’s beginning to settle.”

Odegaard said of his decision to rejoin the Gunners: “I am so happy to be back in Arsenal. I loved it here from the first day I came in January.

“I wanted stability. I wanted to settle down somewhere with a lot of good players who want to establish the club back in the top, with a good manager.

“That’s why I think Arsenal is pretty perfect for me.”

Arteta said of the attacking midfielder back in August: “He made us better.

“We needed more options, more alternatives, creativity and players that can be models in this football club. He’s still a really young man but he has huge experiences in big clubs already.”

Adding: “He has a unique talent for the way we want to play as well.

“So, I am delighted the club has made an effort and we have now Martin in a permanent deal here.”
